About the job
As Engineering Director â Collaboration at Telavox, youâll be the technical and organizational leader for one of our most critical product areas: the platform that powers video calls, chat, and SIP-based softphones across our desktop, mobile, and web applications. Your mission is to drive both product and team excellence. Youâll define the long-term strategy, scale up high-performing teams, and provide the technical guidance to build secure, scalable, and delightful communication experiences. Youâll work closely with product, design, and engineering leadership to align priorities and make impactful decisions, balancing speed, quality, and innovation.
Your day-to-day work may include:
Leading the overall strategy and execution of our Collaboration engineering area, including teams developing and supporting our video, chat, and softphone products
Coaching and mentoring Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers to grow their leadership and technical impact
Defining and evolving the technical roadmap for real-time communication products, including video (WebRTC), messaging, and SIP telephony
Ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability across platforms (React web apps, Electron desktop, native iOS/Android apps)
Driving architectural improvements and long-term investments in quality, testability, and system resilience
Partnering with Product Managers and Designers to translate vision into actionable plans and deliverables
Championing a strong engineering culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and operational excellence
Recruiting and retaining world-class engineering talent and shaping a fun, inclusive workplace
Collaborating with peers across the engineering org to align on standards, best practices, and cross-team initiatives
About you
Youâre a strategic leader who thrives on technical challenges and team development. You care about people, product, and platform, and know how to bring them all together to deliver results. You love turning complexity into clarity, and you know how to balance hands-on technical insight with high-level guidance. Youâre passionate about real-time communication and building systems that people love to use.
Key skills and experience weâre looking for:
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 in engineering leadership roles
Track record of leading multiple teams and Engineering Managers in high-growth product organizations
Deep experience with real-time communication tools and protocols (e.g., WebRTC, SIP, XMPP, WebSocket)
Strong architectural knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native platforms
Experience building and shipping cross-platform applications across web mobile platforms
Excellent collaboration and communication skillsâyou lead with empathy and influence across functions
Strong technical judgment and ability to balance business needs with engineering investment
Experience with agile development methodologies and delivering high-quality software at scale
Passion for growing leaders and shaping healthy, inclusive team cultures
Good-to-have skills:
Familiarity with media servers (e.g., Janus, Jitsi, MediaSoup) and VoIP technologies
Experience with global scale, data localization, or compliance requirements
A strong interest in product strategy and how technology drives customer value
